Section Editors

Applications for editors are available in room 224. Editors will be responsible for a section in the paper. Responsibilities include:

1. Article List - An article list consists of article ideas for each section. Each idea has a short description to guide writers and an estimated word count.

2. Layout - Editors must lay out their section using InDesign in the Chieftain office. They will be taught how to use it and usually have at least a week to complete layout.

3. Copy Edits - Editors are also responsible for adding corrections to their section once it has been reviewed by the copy editor or one of our advisers.

Benefits
-Access to the exclusive Chieftain office.
-Leadership skills and experience.
-Meeting new people from writers in school to leaders in the community.
-Learning how the publication process works, especially InDesign which is widely used among newspapers and an advantage when searching for jobs.

Writers

Writers can sign up for articles either at meetings or through  e-mail. They will have one week (or more if needed) to write articles which will be sent to mhschieftain@gmail.com.

Writers can have their own columns or apply to become a section editor. Being a writer for Chieftain improves writing, looks great for college, and allows people to see their work in print.
