Mets Welcome Lindor, MLB Season Starting On Time
by Victoria Pittore
“Mr. Smile”, better known as Francisco Lindor, is joining the Mets organization as their newest shortstop. This comes after the trade with the Cleveland Indians, where the Indians would receive Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez, Josh Wolf, and Isiah Green. Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco also joined the Mets organization in the trade. Talk of whether or not the Mets will extend Lindor’s contract has already begun with him becoming a free agent after this season. |
Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic’s said, “the Mets appear likely” to give Lindor a contract extension, but for how long they do not know. Since the Mets did not acquire Trevor Bauer or George Springer, could their focus be on extensions for Michael Conforto and Francisco Lindor?
Lindor’s stats for the 2020 season are 236 at bats, 30 runs driven in, 61 hits, 8 home runs, 27 RBIs, 6 stolen bases, .258 batting average, .335 on base percentage, and .750 on base plus slugging percentage according to Major League Baseball. Lindor’s stats for his entire MLB career so far are 3,140 at bats, 508 runs driven in, 896 hits, 138 homeruns, 411 RBIs, 99 stolen bases, .285 batting average, .346 on base percentage, and .833 on base plus slugging percentage according to MLB. |

Lindor has been an AL Allstar 2016-2019. There was no Allstar Game in 2020 due to COVID-19 protocols.
Lindor is a two time Rawlings AL Gold Glove winner, winning in both 2016 and 2019.
The 2020 MLB season only had 60 games. In order to limit the places teams traveled to, teams played against other teams just in their division, and “the rest against their geographic counterpart in the other league,” according to MLB.
As of right now, the MLB season is going to start on April 1 and end on October 3. There will be 162 games in the season. The All Star game is going to happen, taking place July 13 at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia. The World Series is tentatively scheduled to begin October 26. All of this could change depending on how COVID-19 affects the season, and if teams have to delay or cancel games for positive tests like last season according to MLB.
The Mets season opener is a night game starting at 7:10 against the Washington Nationals in Washington D.C., according to MLB and the Mets.
