The First Annual Inclusive Fall-O-Ween Social

By Elizabeth Azzinaro

The Carmel Parks and Recreation Dept. has been known to host big town events like the Street Fair, Harvest Fest, and Cookies with Santa. This year, on Saturday November 5, 2022, they invited teens and adults with special needs to come to a party with a Dj, food, and games. Over 45 people attended the event and each kid had a volunteer buddy from Mahopac High School  to spend the evening with. “ It was so nice seeing both atypical and typical kids have fun and doing things off their phones, everyone seemed to enjoy the event,” said Nina Kallmeyer, the senior recreation leader.
They hope that next year they can plan earlier and do the event again with more people.

BLACK PANTHER WAKANDA FOREVER REVIEW

By Nicholas DeMauro

This past November, Black Panther Wakanda Forever swept into theaters. To be honest, back when the film was announced I was a little skeptical of a sequel, especially after Chadwick Bosemen passed away back in mid 2020. However my skepticism quickly went away as they announced the film would not have T´challa or Chadwick Boseman as part of it. Instead, the movie would honor the legacy he left behind... Read More

Meeting the Stanley Cup/Interview with Chris MacFarland

By Gianna DeMauro

Every young child who grows up a hockey fan, dreams of that moment: touching and holding the Stanley Cup. It was definitely a dream of mine too, and I was fortunate enough to fulfill that dream. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience! While doing so, I also got the opportunity to meet and speak with Colorado Avalanche General Manager, Chris MacFarland. Chris MacFarland was gracious enough to allow me to interview him and ask him some questions about this off-season, as well as the Stanley Cup win... Read More

NEW YORK RANGERS: SEASON PREVIEW

By Gianna DeMauro

Even though the New York Rangers had kept a “no quit” attitude the entirety of their playoff run against the Tampa Bay Lightning, they fell short, losing the series. The organization and team knew that it wasn’t the end, but only the beginning of a successful decade for the young, ambitious team. However, they also recognized that changes had to be made to the team in order to get there.
This off-season started off with signing NYR forward Samuel “Sammy” Blais, who had missed most of the last season with a torn ACL. NYR prospect, Vitali Kravtsov, who the Rangers had what looked like an unrepairable relationship with... Read More

Colorado Avalanche: Stanley Cup Winners!!

By Gianna DeMauro

As Avalanche fans watched Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final, the Colorado Avalanche vs the Tampa Bay Lightning, the thought going through the minds of most fans was “In 2015, who would’ve thought we would be here today (June 26, 2022).”
The game started with the Tampa Bay Lightning scoring the opening goal, coming from Steven Stamkos. This goal would be the only goal for the entirety of the first period. However, Nathan MacKinnon had a problem with that, as he soon tied the game up, 1-1, with a gorgeous goal. The tensions began to rise between both teams as they each tried to get the go-ahead goal. Finally, after a great pass from Nathan MacKinnon, Artturi Lehkonen got a beautiful... Read More

Elvis Review

By Monica-Lillie Jacobs

Elvis, the long awaited biopic about international sensation and national treasure, Elvis Presley hit theaters this summer. Baz Luhrmann directed one of the most amazing films of 2022. Giving Elvis the title as one of the best films released this year, with movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Avatar: The Way of Water coming out later in the year, the film should be spectacular to back this claim. Fortunately, Elvis does back up the hype around it! ... Read More

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

By Maxine Van Nortwick

The purpose of a rom-com is to offer a lighthearted and joyous take on love by giving readers a temporary escape from reality. People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry surpasses the standard expectations of a rom-com and goes past the requirement of a “good book”. The novel handles ideas of loss and endearment in a thorough, but delicate manner that reintroduces the topics to the readers in a different light. The novel’s purpose is not to show only happy relationships or to fill every book trope, but to help readers reflect on themselves. Henry’s novel covers themes of love, separation, abandonment, and time through moments of comedy, melancholy, despair, and joy. People We Meet on Vacation is deeply engaging and has proven itself to be a wonderful read... Read More

Dry - Jarrod and Neal Shusterman

Maxine Van Nortwick

Dry, by Jarrod and Neal Shusterman, offers a dim but realistic point of view to what the future of the world could look like. Set in modern times in Southern California, we see a situation that quickly escalates and turns violent at the snap of a finger. This dystopian young adult novel stays true to its title, and tells the story of what would happen if California went completely dry.

She is kind and a natural-born leader trying to protect her little brother Garrett and save her family. Her next-door neighbor is Kelton, another one of our narrators. Kelton knows two... Read More
